Sweet Haven Farm
Address: Seal Cove, Maine
Volunteers at Sweet Haven Harvest for Hunger have the opportunity to practice all aspects of vegetable production. We deliver produce that is available, weekly, to several low income sites on Mount Desert Island. Volunteers have a great sense of pride in being able to help their neighbors. Volunteers practice soil preparation for planting, transplanting seedlings, direct seeding, and crop maintenance and harvesting in field gardens, raised garden beds, hoop house beds and “Earth Boxes” (planters). They will learn to use organic pest control and soil management methods. We meet for 25 weeks each growing season, from mid-May until the end of October. There are 2 work sessions per week, three hours each. Tuesday and Thursday morning are devoted to harvesting and preparing produce for noon time delivery. Work sessions days and times can be changed to accommodate volunteers’ work schedules as needed.
