UMA Community Garden and Labyrinth

Address: Texas Ave., Bangor, Maine

The UMA Bangor Community Garden & Garden Labyrinth is a space dedicated to growing food for hungry Mainers and providing a space for building community through gardening, meditation, activities and events. Since 2016, the 32 x 40 garden has provided food to the UMA community (a majority of our students are low income, and many face food insecurity). In Fall 2018, in partnership with the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine, we began building a Garden Labyrinth as a project that brings together art, wellness, community, and justice for food insecure Mainers. This 60 x 60 circular walking labyrinth has 4-foot-wide raised hugelkutur beds marking the path. In addition to being a meditative and beautiful space, these beds will provide food for the Shaw House and the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter (other community partners may be forthcoming)
