Part time temporary position – Home Horticulture Aide 1

Piscataquis County

$11.11/ hour

Part-time, temporary position, 20 hours per week for six months (April to October.) Daily work schedule will vary and include occasional evening and/or weekend work. Position is contingent on funding and will be based in Piscataquis and County Offices in Dover-Foxcroft.  Employee will coordinate the Master Gardener Program and conduct other horticulture programs in Piscataquis County. Duties include: responding to client requests in horticulture; working as a team member in needs assessment; planning and presenting, and evaluating horticulture programming; identifying and collaborating with community organizations, initiating or assisting in new and amended Master Gardener community projects, communicating with active county Master Gardener Volunteers, tracking volunteer hours and work performed in Piscataquis county, maintaining mailing lists and directories, and regularly participating in local Extension horticulture staff meetings. A high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to travel normally requiring a valid driver’s license are required. Mileage reimbursed at $0.44 per mile. Associates degree or relevant coursework in horticulture preferred. Horticulture work experience or related field experience may be substituted for degree. A state of Maine Pesticide Applicator’s license is required within 2 months from date of hire. Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.  Excellent oral and written communication, strong organization and customer service skills required. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and strict attention to detail are required.  Employee must demonstrate sound judgment, initiative and commitment to confidentiality. Prior experience working with volunteer programs and volunteer recruitment is preferred. Knowledge of horticulture and training as a Master Gardener Volunteer preferred. Appropriate background checks will be required.
