4-H Teens as Teachers Program

Are you looking to learn some new skills this summer? Do you have a passion for helping others learn? Consider applying for York County 4-H’s Teens As Teachers program!

Teens as Teachers is a grant-funded program for teens ages 14 to 18 who are interested in gaining leadership and communication skills while enriching the lives of younger kids in their communities. The program takes place from late June to early August (see below for more details) and is only a few hours a week, which means you can combine this opportunity with another job or camp. The expected time commitment is between 20 and 22 hours total. Teens will earn a $300.00 stipend once they complete the program. Applications are due May 15, 2026.

Additional Details

Mandatory Training

Mandatory Training will take place over three days. You must attend all three days. The first session will take place via Zoom. The location of the in person sessions will be determined once participants have been accepted into the program. We do not want transportation to be a barrier. Arrangements can be made if necessary.

  • June 22nd: 1pm to 3pm via Zoom
  • July 8th: 10am to 2pm in person
  • July 9th: 10am to 2pm in person

Teen Teaching

Teen Teaching will take place one to two times weekly between July 13th and August 7th. The actual teaching days will be determined based on teen participant availability (see application). Teens will work in pairs, leading four 1-hour sessions total. Teaching will take place at a local library. 4-H staff will accompany teens to each session to provide support.

Additional Meetings

Additional Meetings will take place once halfway through the program and once after the last teaching session. 4-H staff will support the teens throughout the program. The midway meeting will be an opportunity for teens to come together, ask questions, share successes, and do additional preparation. The final meeting will be a celebration of the teen’s work, as well as an opportunity for teens to provide feedback on the program, work on their project records, and receive their stipend!
