UMaine Extension offers workshop on allium pests and diseases
FALMOUTH, Maine — University of Maine Cooperative Extension will host a workshop on allium pests and diseases on Tuesday, August 4 from 5–6:30 p.m. at the UMaine Gardens at Tidewater Farm in Falmouth.
UMaine Extension Fruit and Vegetable Research Associate Peyton Ginakes will lead this engaging workshop on common pests and diseases affecting allium crops such as onions, garlic, leeks and shallots. Understanding how to identify and manage these issues is key to growing healthy, productive plants in the home garden that will store well throughout winter. In this interactive class, participants will explore how to recognize early signs of damage, discuss seasonal monitoring techniques and examine real examples from the garden. This workshop is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience scouting for pests and diseases that can be applied in your own garden.
The registration fee is $15 and advance registration is required on the Allium Pests and Diseases event page. For more information or to request a reasonable accommodation, contact Pamela Hargest at pamela.hargest@maine.edu or 207.949.4524.
