Meet the Summer 2021 Interns
Allison Merriman
Allison is interning with the Maine 4-H Foundation as a student media assistant and interviewer for promotional videos. Allison is majoring in entrepreneurship art with a focus in photography at USM, and hopes to apply these studies in the field of promotional photography “working with companies around the world and exploring the endless possibilities involved with social media.”
When asked about the appeal of an Extension internship, Allison replied “ I thought it would be a really good opportunity, with the chance to meet new people and fine tune my skills.” While here, Allison hopes to focus on and grow skills used in video editing, saying “my main passion is for photography, but I’d love to make myself more well-rounded in media all around.”
Allison’s favorite activities when not pursuing photography include doing anything outdoors — kayaking, hiking and taking pictures of nature. If it’s rainy out, that time is likely to be used editing all those photos and reading any book within reach.
Mackensie Schofield
Mackensie is interning with UMaine Extension 4-H as a summer-learning intern supporting the 4-H Summer Learning Series. Mackensie applied for this internship because “4-H was a large part of my youth and was a big part of making me who I am today, so I wanted a chance to give back to the program that did so much for me. I hope that I am able to learn more about teaching youth and new ways to help them in 4-H.”
Mackensie is majoring in animal and veterinary sciences with a minor in equine studies at UMaine and, after an anticipated 2022 graduation, wants to work with Cooperative Extension or other office within the USDA.
To relax, Mackensie enjoys “reading, watching TV, and being with my cows.”
Mackensie also shared that “some of my favorite memories involve a 4-H activity, one of my most recent ones being my last year as a 4-H member when I won Supreme Champion Dairy cow in the 4-H Show at the Eastern States livestock Exposition.”
Jonathan Warren
Jonathan is interning with the Maine 4-H Foundation as a student media and marketing assistant. Jonathan’s primary tasks are creating marketing materials for use in fundraising, and taking still photos and video footage of UMaine 4-H camps for use in promotional videos. This internship “appealed to me because I am interested in all aspects of marketing and this opportunity allowed me to work in various settings.”
With a double major at UMaine in business administration in marketing and in management, Jonathan’s goal is to “become a marketing manager and expand my knowledge of the opportunities in the marketing field.” Prior to an anticipated 2022 graduation, Jonathan also plans to study abroad this fall in the United Kingdom and hopes to “take what I’ve learned during this internship and apply it during my time there.”
Jonathan also enjoys several outdoor activities, including running, fishing, hiking, and flying drones.
