It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Aroostook County is enjoying a beautiful start to the winter with snow on the ground and brisk temperatures. We hope you are all enjoying the holiday season and had a Happy Thanksgiving!

Annual Achievement Awards Banquet

November 7

Aroostook County 4-H Members, family, and friends attended the 4-H Annual Achievement Awards Banquet on November 7 in Presque Isle. This awards night was a wonderful chance for members to come together to show support for the County 4-H program. We greatly appreciated the chance to see so many members, their families, and friends together for such a special occasion. Thank you to the volunteers and families for helping to make the night a huge success!

CHOICES Afterschool Program

November 20

Money CAN grow on trees!
Thanks to a special appearance by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension employees, Debra Kantor and David Fuller, Choices after school program participants learned about a popular Maine tradition, Fir Tipping.
This special workshop allowed attendees to learn how to make their own Swag from the tips of Fir trees. Using tips, pine cones, and ribbon each participant created a beautiful decoration for their home! This was an amazing afternoon spent with local youth teaching entrepreneurship, tree identification, and teamwork.
A big, big thanks to Debra and David, it was a wonderful activity!

2020 is on the way!

If you can’t believe 2019 is coming to a close then you are not alone, we can hardly believe it either!

We want to thank every 4-H member, family and support system, volunteer and anyone else that may not fall into that realm, for a fantastic year. You all do a wonderful job and we appreciate the accomplishments of each member and volunteer. We enjoy watching the members grow as well as become positive community members that help Aroostook County evolve. We hope you have enjoyed the year and all the wonderful accomplishments the members have had the opportunity to experience.

 Save the Date for 2020 Maine 4-H Days

  1. Maine 4-H Days will take place July 16 – 19, 2020 at the Windsor Fairgrounds. If you are interested in helping to plan next year’s event, please contact Jessy Brainerd at brainerd@maine.edu or 207.581.3877.
  2. 4-H Science Saturdays are Returning in 2020!
    Thanks to the generous support of the Maine 4-H Foundation, we will be offering opportunities for middle/early high school-aged youth to visit the UMaine campus for targeted science or engineering experiences! Science Saturday programs run from 10 AM – 1:30 p.m. and include time for youth to engage in hands-on activities with professors and current UMaine students, as well as time for lunch in a UMaine dining hall!   3. 4-H Statewide Teen Dance Seeks Planning Committee Members
    There is a small group of 4-H members who would like to plan a statewide formal dance for teen 4-H members across the state. We are looking for teen volunteers who would like to be a part of the planning committee for this Winter event. FMI please contact Maddie Gray maddicus83@gmail.com.
  4. Winter Becoming an Outdoor Woman Program
    The 2019 Winter Becoming an Outdoor Woman program will be held on February 21 – 23, 2020 at Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center, 17 Conservation Lane, Bryant Pond ME 04219 in Oxford County. This fun weekend is geared towards women seeking new ways to get outdoors, meet new friends, and challenge themselves. All meals and lodging are provided and space is limited to 36 participants.   5. Save the Date! 4-H Animal Science Bonanza
