Short-Term 4-H Summer Special Interest Programs (SPIN)
Summer Special Interest (SPIN) clubs are designed to get 4-H and non-4-H youth engaged in activities that fuel their spark. SPIN club offerings vary year to year and are driven by youth interests and community needs. Current 4-H enrollment is not necessary for participation, however members will be enrolled in Cumberland County 4-H upon registration.
Have questions? Contact Cumberland 4-H by email extension.4-Hcumberland@maine.edu or phone 207.781.6099.
4-H may be coming to a library near you! On Wednesday afternoons during the summer, we will offer a themed hands-on activity for youth ages 5-12 at local libraries. Programs may include craft or science activities. 5-8-year-olds must have an adult present for assistance, and some projects encourage adult assistance for all ages. Current 4-H enrollment is not necessary for participation.

Blueberry jam, pickles, and tomato sauce—all of these foods can be made from scratch with fruits and vegetables grown in your own garden. Join UMaine Extension staff and volunteers in this hands-on, interactive program that will teach kids ages 9+ how to grow and preserve the garden’s harvest. Each session will begin in the University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s Tidewater Gardens as we harvest the fruits and vegetables needed to make jam, pickles, tomato sauce, and more. Then we’ll move to the UMaine Regional Learning Center Demo Kitchen and prepare a batch of delicious preserved foods. Each participant will take home samples of what we make.
If you are interested in any of these 4-H Summer Programs, but are concerned about the cost, please contact Cumberland 4-H staff to discuss financial assistance in the form of a reduced or waived fee.
If you are a person with a disability and need an accommodation to participate in this program, please call 4-H Cumberland staff at 207.781.6099 or 800.287.1471 (in Maine) to discuss your needs. Receiving requests for accommodations at least 7 days before the program provides a reasonable amount of time to meet the request, however, all requests will be considered.
