Every year, the Master Gardener Volunteers have a demonstration booth at the fair, which is usually held the last full week of September. A new gardening topic is chosen each year with the aim of providing valuable research-based information to the public. Soil test kits are always available and two Master Gardeners per shift man the booth for the duration of the fair. In 2013, the Master Gardener booth awarded the ‘Best in Fair’ for the demonstration booths. Here is a list of some past topics for the demonstration booth: Container Gardening, Invasives, How to Extend the Gardening Season, What’s in Your Backyard, Square-foot Gardening, The Gardens at Tidewater, Farm Growing fruit at Home, and Celebrating Community and Pollinators (including a butterfly and moth mobile).
