The 5th and 6th graders are involved in planting and tending seedlings, transferring them to garden and greenhouses at the end of school year for harvest at the end of August and September. Sheila Frappier (a Master Gardener Volunteer) along with some local families weed and water through the summer months, while school is not in session. The students work closely with school nutrition department and provided the cafeteria with over 900lbs of fresh produce in 2018. After the school break in February, the students will start growing salad mix again. They are always experimenting with new growing techniques, pushing the garden boundaries in order to increase their harvest. In 2019, they will be trying to grow carrots in raised beds in the greenhouse. In the Fall of 2018, they formed an after-school garden club, where they learned about harvesting veggies, putting flower gardens to bed, and planting bulbs for the Spring. Project Coordinator: Sheila Frappier.
