Oxford Street Garden is in the West Bayside neighborhood of Portland and is adjacent to the Oxford Street Homeless Shelter. This is an open-pick garden welcoming neighbors as well as homeless people. We encourage all to pick and to help tend the garden. Master Gardeners, working through Cultivating Community tend the garden and drop off food and flowers to food insecure neighbors at the family shelters across the street and to Preble Food kitchen. The garden is comprised of 10 raised vegetable and herb beds, large tracts for pollinators, as well as blueberries, raspberries, and apple trees. We’re using permaculture methods whenever possible–building the soil up from good quality materials like seaweed, manure, leaf mold and compost. Pathways are built with cardboard under wood chips. All of this needs maintaining. Sally Lucy Wright 2015/Anne Spelman 2017. Project Coordinator: Sally Lucy Wright.
