Meet the Scientist

Expedition 3: Antarctica (2017)

Lynn Kaluzienski

Lynn Kaluzienski and Peter set up equipment on the ice sheet near their helicopterHello! My name is Lynn Kaluzienski and I am a PhD student at the University of Maine in the Department of Earth and Climate Sciences and Climate Change Institute. My main area of study is glaciology, or the study of glaciers and their change with time. Before I began my PhD in the earth and climate sciences however, I studied physics and astronomy at Emory University where I received my Bachelor’s degree. The first time I visited Maine, I traversed all the way from Georgia, my home state, along the Appalachian Trail. It was on this trip that I discovered my passion for the earth sciences as well as my excitement for fieldwork. I am now thrilled to be a part of the field of glaciology where I have opportunities to do research in some of world’s most remote locations. I’m excited to share my upcoming trip to the Antarctic with you and your students!
