Guide for Estimating Weight of Donated Produce
The following weights are based on a loosely packed plastic grocery bag unless otherwise noted.
Apples: 3-4 = 1 lb
Beans (green): 8 lbs per bag
Corn: Number of ears donated
Cantaloupe: 3 lbs per fruit
Carrots: 7 lbs per bag
Cucumbers: 14 lbs per bag, or 2 medium cukes per lb
Lettuce/Greens:
- 1 small head of loose leaf = 3/4 lb
- 1 small head of romaine = 1 lb
- bag of loose lettuce leaves = 5 lbs
Onions: 12 lbs per bag, or 2-3 medium/large onions = 1 lb
Potatoes: 20 lbs per bag
Summer Squash & Zucchini: 2-3 medium = 1 lb, or 1 large (10”) = 1 lb
Tomatoes:
- 25 lbs per bag
- 2-3 medium = 1 lb
- 1 large tomato or heirloom = 1 lb
Winter Squash:
- Acorn = 2 lbs per squash
- Buttercup = 4 lbs per squash
- Butternut = 4 lbs per squash
- Delicata = 1.5 lbs per squash
