You Can Program Series…Slice It, Salt It, Stomp It!

You Can Program Series

DOVER-FOXCROFT, ME— Slice It, Salt It, Stomp It! is the latest program in the You Can series. It will be held Tuesday, February 7th from 6-8 pm at SeDoMoCha in Dover-Foxcroft. Cost is $10 and you can register through PVAEC by calling 564-6525 or online at the PVAEC website.

Even though times are tough, You Can sustain your family. The Piscataquis Valley Adult Education Cooperative and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension have put together a series of workshops that will give you the skills to get started in self-sufficiency.

Preserve your garden’s fresh vegetables for the winter without canning or freezing! At this hands-on workshop you’ll learn the fun and easy technique of lacto-fermentation to keep vegetables in their raw state for months of delicious eating.  Cultures around the world take advantage of fermented vegetables as a digestive aid and for their enhanced nutrition and anti-cancer properties.

Since 2007 Mary Margaret Ripley has made over 25 diverse kinds of fermented vegetables at Ripley Organic Farm in Dover-Foxcroft.

UMaine Extension programs are open and accessible to all in accordance with program goal. Any person with a disability who needs accommodations for this program should contact Amanda Miles at 1-800-287-1491 to discuss their needs at least 10 days in advance.

For more than 90 years, University of Maine Cooperative Extension has supported UMaine’s land-grant public education role by conducting community-driven, research-based programs in every Maine County.
