UMaine Extension at the Forest Heritage Days Celebration
Staff from the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Piscataquis County Office will have an educational display August 10th at the Forest Heritage Days in Greenville. We will be located in the gymnasium on the school grounds.
Sheila Norman, 4-H Youth Aide will be demonstrating how to make a Bee Hummer. You can make your own and take home a Bee Hummer that when spun in the air makes a buzzing sound. She will also have information on becoming a 4-H member and how to start a 4-H club.
Donna Coffin, Extension Educator and Ana Bonstedt, Home Horticulture Coordinator will bring a display about container gardening and will have a tomato plant that has been growing in a bag – no container needed. We also will have an Emerald Ash Borer Trap, so you can see how our forests are monitored to keep us alert to this pests movement. You are welcome to bring your garden questions and see if you can stump the experts!
The folks at the Forest Heritage Days have a lot of activities planned the whole weekend. Go to http://www.forestheritagedays.org/ to get the full schedule of logging and woods competitions, forest demonstrations & tours as well as the craft show.
