What’s a CRM?

We’ve talked a lot about Salesforce and it being a CRM, but what exactly is a CRM? What does that mean? We’re glad you asked.

CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management.

A CRM is software that organizes information about our interactions with people. In general, when people speak of a CRM, they are speaking of the software (like we are with Salesforce!).

Here at Extension, we are already tracking many interactions we have with clients in Salesforce. If a client attends a webinar, an in-person event and contacts our Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab, each interaction is tracked within Salesforce. We can use this information to then reach out to the client with targeted information about updates on the Plant Disease Lab or new events they might be interested in.

That’s just a tiny piece of what a CRM like Salesforce can do. Curious to read more? Salesforce has a wonderful article about What is CRM (Customer Relationship Management) that does a deep dive into all of the benefits of a CRM!
