The first human case of an emerging tick-borne disease in the Northeast has been reported in Connecticut, officials said.
The disease, Rickettsia parkeri rickettsiosis, is similar to Rocky Mountain spotted fever with relatively milder symptoms in the United States, according to the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, or CAES. It is transmitted by the Gulf Coast tick.
