The 4-H Summer Learning Series brings together youth and adults from around the state to learn, connect, and grow through a wide variety of virtual workshops. After its successful launch in 2020 as a response to COVID-19, the program continues to expand the opportunities for young Mainers to engage and learn with 4-H. It also helps to alleviate some of the learning loss that occurs each summer.

The series is made up of more than 20 different workshops featuring engagement-building activities in the fields of arts and crafts, food and nutrition, STEM, marine science and aquaculture, animal science and agriculture, and more. The workshops give kids a chance to get to know the 4-H program and connect with other youth from across Maine. Participants and learn from UMaine and Extension faculty as well as adult volunteers with a variety of expertise.

Volunteers and 4-H staff work together to provide high-quality, hands-on, experiential learning experiences via Zoom. For most workshops, materials are mailed to participants ahead of time, making it even easier (and less expensive) to participate!
