Maine 4-H Days Enrichment Programs

Session #1

Make your Own Paper!for youth ages 5+.  Learn the art of paper making!

Needle Feltingfor youth ages 5-8. Draw your own picture and needle felt it! Great for young Cloverbuds. They will need adult supervision as we will be working with sharp needles.

Wildlife Science – for youth ages 9-11.  Investigate Maine’s ecosystem and learn about the wildlife that surround us. Participants will be detectives to sleuth out which animals we think are present and all participants will leave with an animal track casting.

Claim Your Futurefor youth ages 12+. Interactive game that explores career pathways, financial decision making and the future return on investment of post-secondary education and training. Participants are assigned a career with a salary and must build a monthly budget, making “adulting” decisions along the way.

Farm Tractor and Operations Safetyfor youth ages 12+. Tractors are a key part of farming. Their power is what makes them so useful, but also creates risks that everyone around the farm should be aware of. In this workshop we’ll talk about the basics of tractor operation, and key safety considerations. We’ll highlight these risks in order to help participants avoid accidents and injuries.

Uncommon Communicationfor youth ages 12+. Learn how we communicate with each other through gameplay.

Session #2

Paint Your Own Barn Quilt – for youth of all ages. Create your own small “barn quilt” from a variety of designs, or design one yourself, using acrylic paints and canvas boards.

Digging the Pastfor youth ages 9-11. Discover how archaeologists’ study ancient cultures through the objects they left behind. Practice using real archaeological tools and examine real artifacts!

Maine Search and Rescue Dog Demofor youth ages 9-11. Come and learn how dogs are used in search and rescue work! Get to meet the dogs in person and watch them in action.

Engineer It! – for youth ages 5-8. This workshop will be filled with engineering challenges. We will work together to challenge the laws of physics by building marble roller coasters. There will also be other surprise engineering challenges to test as time allows.

Historical Exploration for youth ages 5-11. Explore the history of Maine with the Windsor Fair Historical Society! Participants will work in the blacksmith shop, explore the sawmill, and visit the museum.

Basics of Bees for youth ages 9+. Join Basic of Bees to learn about bees, what they can make, and some of the problems that you may come across when you have your own bees.

Carting 101: Miniaturized: for youth ages 9+. An introduction to driving horses including parts of a harness, harnessing horses, driving and hitching to a cart. Meet the minis after the workshop.

Intro to Aerial Artsfor youth ages 12+. An introduction to aerial dance. Participants will get the chance to learn some basics of aerial acrobatics using suspended fabric.

Listen, Listen… Talk, Talk… Learn, Learn…for youth ages 12+. Dynamic information & activities that focus on human communication, brain patterns & conflict resolution!

Session #4

Engineer It! for youth ages 5-8.  This workshop will be filled with engineering challenges. We will work together to challenge the laws of physics by building marble roller coasters. There will also be other surprise engineering challenges to test as time allows.

Facing Obstacles with Mini Horses – for youth ages 9+. An introduction to obstacles and desensitization with horses. Learn how to tackle common obstacles you might find at home and meet the minis after the workshop.

Taking your Poultry Project to the Next Level for youth ages 9+. Are you a poultry lover who is interested in taking your poultry project to the next level? Join us to learn about how you can transform your backyard flock into show ready birds.
