Trip based programs add a whole new dimension to summer camp programming. Through expeditionary learning participants can have the opportunity to push through their comfort zones and learn about themselves and the world around them. The first step to offering these programs is having certified trip leaders. Bryant Pond has had a long history of offering these programs, due to our top notch trip leader training. This year we are excited to share this training opportunity with other camps. From June 13th through the 14th we will be offering an open enrollment trip leader training that will take a deep dive into the skills and practices of trip leading. We will spend two days and one night in the field learning skills from map and compass, canoeing, risk management, and so much more. Not only will we focus on practical skills we will spend time talking about how to manage campers and yourself in the field, so you will feel prepared for anything. The training will be taught by experienced trip leader instructors in a hands-on approach. Be prepared to spend most of the time outdoors or at one of our remote campsites.
To be certified as a trip leader participants will have to have a valid Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR certification. Participants who have not yet had the chance to obtain these certifications will have the opportunity to enroll in our onsite WFA class that runs just prior to the start of this program on June 11th &12th. Upon successful completion of this course you will be well on your way to becoming a successful trip leader. At the end of class participants will be given a form to be filled out and sent into the state to be awarded their certification.
