Paul Merrill Memorial Fund

The Paul E. Merrill 4-H Memorial Fund was established as a memorial to Paul E. Merrill who died in April 1982. Mr. Merrill firmly believed in the merits of the 4-H program and in the character-building qualities of learning to care for and raise livestock. This fund is a splendid way to carry on the beliefs of Mr. Merrill and in doing so, encourage youth to grow in character and ability as Mr. Merrill had done. It is designed to provide financial aid for projects from the interest of the account to 4-H livestock clubs or 4-H members with livestock projects. The application deadline is May 1, 2019.

For more information and an application, please visit the Paul Merrill Memorial Fund page.

Club Happenings

White Pine Equines & Caprines
Reporter: Bridge F.

2 girls with 2 baby goatsWe held our meeting on 3/13/19 and discussed old business, a record book and portfolio clinic that Kristi has offered to do, and having a baby goat fundraiser. There are lots of new goat kids on Nora and Don’s farm. We also were considering making Easter baskets over spring break and donating them to charity. We brought in our completed worksheets and Kristi brought in little prizes for us. We then split into groups and moved on to Education. In the Equine group Natalie brought in big model horses and we had fun naming the parts of the horse and for the Caprine group Nora brought in two baby goats! We also discussed the Mini Forum, which was awesome by the way.
The Mini Forum was held on 3/16/19 at USM in Gorham. It was a super fun day where we got to pick two activities to do from a big list. I chose clover crafts and making clay charms, there also was fudge, smoothie, and ice cream making, wildlife and agricultural science, sign language for beginners, pollinator paradise, and fun with music. There were lots of people from our club there but I also got to meet people from a bunch of different clubs. We had a Subway lunch, played People Bingo, and had a raffle. There were also more baby goats for one of the activities. It was an awesome day full of fun and crafts.
