Ever wonder how to preserve all those great garden vegetables? This home food preservation demonstration will teach you the basic steps for canning and freezing. Participants will receive home food preservation fact sheets, and will learn recommended methods for preserving foods, the latest and safest recipes, about equipment to ensure safety, and how to check for properly sealed jars. Participants may bring their own pressure canner dial gauge to class for a free accuracy test!
Kate McCarty has been the Food Systems Professional at UMaine Extension since 2009, after serving in the AmeriCorps VISTA program. She has completed the Master Food Preserver program, an intensive, hands-on training in all aspects of home food preservation. Kate manages the volunteer efforts of the 60+ Master Food Preserver volunteers statewide and teaches food preservation programs in York, Cumberland, Oxford, Androscoggin, Sagadahoc, and Franklin counties.
This program will take place in person, in the Androscoggin Community Room, and for planning purposes, registration is required.
