How to Apply

Participants must complete an application in order to be considered for this program.

Due to recent changes in staff responsibilities, we will not be offering the Master Gardener Volunteer (MGV) Training during the 2024/2025 season to give our staff time to regroup and determine an appropriate training schedule and number of MGV trainees we can accept moving forward.

Since we are no longer maintaining an interest list, we encourage you to stay up to date on when the next Master Gardener Volunteers Training is being offered by:

• Subscribing to the Maine Home Garden News to receive monthly newsletters with seasonal and timely gardening information as well as announcements for when our horticulture training programs are being offered. Learn more about the Maine Home Garden News and view recent issues here.
• Checking back on our training program website on July 1, 2025.
• Connecting with your county Extension office to see if there’s a monthly newsletter you can subscribe to.

Are you looking for training without the volunteer component? We also offer two other horticulture training programs:

Maine Gardener training, for those who wish to gain horticulture knowledge to use in their personal gardening.  For more information, visit the Maine Gardener webpage. Registration will open on September 30, 2024 at noon. No application is needed; first come, first serve until the class is full or October 14, 2024.

Maine Horticulture Apprentice Training, for those who wish to gain practical horticulture knowledge designed for skilled entry-level positions in horticulture. For more information, visit the Maine Horticulture Apprentice Training webpage. Registration will open September 23, 2024 at noon. No application is needed; first come, first serve until the class is full or October 14, 2024.
