Penobscot County 4-H’ers are invited to enter their exhibits in the 4-H Exhibit Hall at the 2022 Piscataquis Valley Fair. Exhibits can be dropped off at the fairgrounds on Tuesday, August 23 between 2 and 5 pm. The items will then be judged and on display during the fair from August 25th to the 28th.
If you are unable to drop off your items at the Piscataquis Fairgrounds on August 23, 4-H’ers may drop off their exhibits and registration paperwork at the Bangor office anytime before 4:30 on Friday, August 19. The office is open Monday to Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm. 4-H staff (Sheila and Emily) will transport the projects to the fairgrounds and back to the Bangor office after the fair has concluded.

If you are like me (this is Emily, Penobscot and Piscataquis County 4-H staff person) and have never entered anything in an exhibit hall before and have no idea what it involves, keep reading!
During most fairs, there is usually a building, called an Exhibit Hall, where people’s homemade items and projects are on display. This can be anything from sewing and knitting projects to carpentry to music to science (a full list of project categories can be found on the website)! These items are dropped off a few days before the fair and are judged by evaluators. Each project is awarded a ribbon, which has a premium that is associated with it, and the ribbon is on display beside your exhibit/project. At the end of the fair, you pick up your items along with your ribbon and your premium.
The Piscataquis Valley Fair has one of these Exhibit Halls just for 4-H. Every exhibit on display in the building is created by a 4-H’er. If you have a project you have been working on (and will be finished by mid-August) that you are proud of, we encourage you to enter it in the fair. You can show off your work to the public and you can earn some extra money at the same time! Also, if you can’t go to the Piscataquis Valley Fair, no worries you can still enter an exhibit. Just drop off your project with its paperwork in Bangor and we’ll take care of the rest.

Here are some examples from past years to get you thinking: paintings, a self-made first aid kit, a poster about a topic you are passionate about, a video of you playing a favorite instrument, jewelry, a snack or food item (with the recipe!), clothing, decorations, pottery.
