Extension Leadership Team Minutes

Maine 4-H at ESE states went well this year. Thanks to all staff and volunteers who helped make it a success.

The STEM Ambassador program continues to unfold under the guidance of Lisa Phelps, Laura Wilson and Sarah Sparks. There is a great deal of enthusiasm for the program from other campuses.

John continues to work on providing public education on the diagnostic lab bond issue.

The UMaine Faculty Retirement incentive is still available with an October 20 deadline.

Dennis presented grant reports for the federal FY14, and gift/fundraising reports for the first quarter of FY15, including:

  • Grants AWARDED during FFY14
  • Grant BENEFIT during FFY14 – estimated value of grants during FY14
  • Gifts and fundraising for the first quarter of the University’s FY15

Extension IT Update
Dennis and Lisa have been working with Tanner regarding strategies for moving forward with the technology unit once Chuck retires.

Announcements:

Congratulations to Ellen Mallory who has been awarded $21,686 by USDA NIFA for a project titled ”Building Research Knowledge and Community Through an International Organic Agriculture Conference”.

Congratulations to Ellen Mallory who has been awarded $42,442 by USDA NIFA for a project titled ” Building Knowledge, Skills and Networks for Soil Security in Maine”.

Congratulations to Richard Brzozowski who has been awarded $174,021 by USDA/NIFA to continue the work of the Maine AgriAbility program. This amount reflects funding for the first of four years.

Congratulations to David Handley and Tori Jackson who have been awarded $195,379 by the USDA Risk Management Education Program to fund crop insurance education in Maine for 2015.

Congratulations to Richard Brzozowski who has been awarded $64,444 by USDA/NIFA Northeast SARE to continue professional development for agricultural service providers in New England who provide support for poultry farmers.

  • Development or fundraising success

Please take the opportunity to share your good works through this avenue. Keep it brief… approximately two to four sentences would be appreciated. To submit an announcement, please contact your PA or appropriate member of the ELT.
