CONGRATULATIONS

4-H HughesNet STEM Program
Congratulations to PI Ryder Scott and Co-PIs Ryan LeShane, Jessica Decke, and Ronald Fournier who have been awarded $10,000 by the National 4-H Council for their “4-H HughesNet STEM Program” project. This funding will allow 300 students to take part in the “The Sky is the Limit” Solar challenge while attending our three 4-H Camp and Learning Centers this Spring and Summer. Each site will develop unique solar car project lessons and share it with our entire 4-H staff with the intention of beginning the base exploration toward building an advanced solar STEM kit for the state.

4H Shooting Sports Yr6
Congratulations to PI Ronald Fournier who has been awarded $24,100 by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for the “4-H Shooting Sports Yr6” project. These funds will allow the UMaine Cooperative Extension via the Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center to grow the instructor base and specifically, will allow us to target central Maine in an attempt to reach a greater population of new 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors. Funding will also support youth and adult participation through various activities at Bryant Pond, as well as many programs that will be held around the state.

2017 Navy Teen Summer Camp
Congratulations to PI Jessica Decke and Co-PI Ryder Scott who have been awarded $24,741 by Kansas State University for the “2017 Navy Teen Summer Camp” project. This project is part of the USDA-NIFA “Navy/4-H Military Partnership and Outreach and Support” project.  These funds will allow students from military families to attend UMaine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Tanglewood. Participants will explore concepts of energy and motion with a focus on wind power, as well as make a trip to UMaine’s Composites Laboratory. Teens with have the opportunity to connect with other youth from Maine and beyond, be part of a larger camp community and enjoy many of the treasures that make Maine in summer special including a weekend campout and time to explore the iconic coastal town of Camden.
