Master Gardener Volunteer Training to be Offered in Machias beginning in September
The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering a six week Master Gardener Volunteer training beginning on September 10 at the Extension office in Machias. This course provides intensive instruction in horticulture and volunteerism. The course will focus on ecological landscaping with ornamental plants. It will not cover vegetable and fruit production. It is open to anyone with enthusiasm for gardening and volunteering. In exchange for the training, participants are required to volunteer their time and expertise in gardening related community projects. The training will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on September 10, 16, 24 and October 1, 8, and 22. The cost of the program is based on the participant’s annual household income. There are scholarship funds available. Application deadline is Friday, August 30, 2013.
