Volunteers to be Honored by Washington County Extension Association
The Washington County Extension Association will hold its Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 1st at 5:00 p.m. at the Rose M. Gaffney School in Machias. The public is invited to attend.
Ron Pesha of Lubec will receive the Norman W. Duzen Community Service Award. Ron has made many contributions to the town of Lubec including his volunteer efforts at the West Quoddy Head Light Keepers Association, Lubec Historical Society, and Lubec schools as well as many other organizations and projects.
Marilyn Ness of Lubec is being awarded the Leon A. Look Distinguished Volunteer Award for her contributions to several program areas of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension including the Senior Companion Program Advisory Board, 4-H Robotics Expo and the Washington County Extension Association.
The University of Maine Pen Awards will be presented to Marilyn Randall of Machias for her contributions to the Senior Companion Program, Jane Bell of Edmunds for her contributions to the 4-H Youth Development Program and to Dick Shaw of Machias for his commitment and contributions to the Washington County Extension Association.
The evening program will feature a presentation by registered dietitian and Associate Extension Professor Alan Majka who will discuss Washington County food and health issues and some UMaine Extension efforts to address them. The new Dining with Diabetes Down East program will be featured.
