Senior Companion Volunteers Honored at Recognition Event
On Thursday October 3rd, the Senior Companion Program of Washington County held their annual Recognition. Twenty five Senior Companion Volunteers from different towns in the county were honored for their service to folks who are home bound or isolated. Senior Companions are folks who are 55 or older who are friendly visitors. They visit with folks to help combat loneliness by sharing stories, playing cards or having a meal together. Senior Companions also help folks get to the doctors and shopping in their communities.
If you are interested in becoming a Senior Companion or know someone that could benefit from having a friendly visitor please call Deborah Gardner at University of Maine Cooperative Extension at 255-3345 or 1-800-287-1542 or stop by the office at 28 Center Street Machias weekdays from 8:00am to 4:30pm.
