Support Research and Outreach Efforts at Highmoor Farm
The work we do at Highmoor Farm is meant to provide relevant, applied information to commercial fruit and vegetable growers
We ensure that our projects are of high value to producers by regularly consulting the state’s grower groups—including the Maine Vegetable and Small Fruit Growers Association and the Maine Pomological Society. Examples of projects include variety and rootstock comparisons, integrated pest management programs, nutrient management and compost utilization research, and cultural practice evaluations.
We share the results of all our work as broadly as possible so that Maine farmers have up-to-date, science-based resources to sustain their businesses. You can find these results in the Crop Resources page, in our talks at the New England Vegetable and Fruit Conference and Maine Agricultural Trades Show, and integrated into regional production guides, including the New England Vegetable Management Guide, the New England Tree Fruit Management Guide, the New England Small Fruit Management Guide, and the Strawberry Production Guide.
If you would like to support the work we do here at Highmoor Farm, you may choose to donate to one or both of the following funds:
The Small Fruit and Vegetable Fund supports research efforts on a wide range of crops and growing practices. Recent research under this umbrella spans tarping for weed control and nutrient management, numerous pest scouting programs, and variety trials of everything from sweet corn and strawberries to peppers and parsnips.
The Tree Fruit Fund supports research efforts geared toward apple and peach production. Recent tree fruit projects include peach cold hardiness research and the development of an associated breeding program, as well as apple rootstock and training system evaluations.
