Emergency Response Carcass Management Information and Demonstration Field Day (California)
February 15, 2022, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

This will be a four-hour demonstration and informational meeting for industry stakeholders, government officials, and other decision makers. Participants will observe how grinding, composting, and above ground burial may be used as tools for mortality management.
Participants will have the opportunity to interact with compost subject matter experts that have been deployed during numerous catastrophic events and have been leaders in carcass management research and educational programs.
At the end of the program, participants will be better prepared to make decisions during a catastrophic animal mortality event and to transfer knowledge to producers, stakeholders, and colleagues to assist with the management of the mortalities. Participants will also begin to develop a network of carcass management colleagues.

Carcass Management Train-the-Trainer Program (California)
March 22 – 24, 2022, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

This Carcass Management training will prepare industry personnel and Agriculture Service Providers to manage animal carcasses using composting and above ground burial in the event of a foreign animal disease outbreak or natural disaster. The primary goal is to provided participants with technical information, tools and skills to manage large volumes of carcass mortalities through experiential learning. The program will include classroom sessions, hands-on activities, demonstrations and scenario planning.
At the end of the program participants will be prepared to make animal carcass management decision during a catastrophic event be able to transfer knowledge to producers, stake holders and colleagues and assist with the management of the mortalities. Participants have the option of taking the USDA compost Subject Matter Expert (SME) certification exam. Attending the training and successfully passing the exam are two of three steps to becoming a USDA:APHIS recognized compost SME.
