Storytellers by the Sea

“To stand at the edge of the sea, to sense the ebb and the flow of the tides, to feel the breath of a mist moving over a great salt marsh, to watch the flight of shore birds that have swept up and down the surf lines of continents for untold thousands of years… is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal as any earthly life can be.” – Rachel Carson, Under the Sea-Wind

The ocean and islands of Maine have inspired writers for hundreds of years and storytellers for thousands. Join us in continuing this long-time tradition as we roam the coastal forests, rocky beaches and lighthouse-lit shores of Tenants Harbor and Penobscot Bay. Each day participants will wake up at our coastal campsite to the sounds of the ocean, heralded by the call of ospreys and the baying of bald eagles. During this immersive experience we will work on nature journaling, oral storytelling, forest bathing and wilderness awareness with visits from local storytellers and artists. The week will culminate with a paddle to our island writing retreat.
