Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you source your plants?

We source our plants from a variety of places, including Master Gardener Volunteer donations and local farms and nurseries. When plants are dug up from the property of Master Gardener Volunteers, we take extreme caution by bare rooting (rinsing off the soil from the roots) all of the plants and potting them up in fresh potting mix. We also follow the guidelines outlined in Bulletin #2518, Best Practices for Plant Sale Donors and Buyers in Maine.

This year, we’re offering certified organic vegetable and herb seedlings from Bumbleroot Organic Farm in Windham, annual flowers from Carlin Family Farm in Windham, and native woody perennials from Pierson Nurseries.

What do the funds raised from this plant sale support?

All proceeds from this plant sale support educational and food security projects across Cumberland County and include large undertakings such as demonstration gardens, Maine Harvest for Hunger initiatives, therapeutic gardens, school gardens, youth programs, and more!
