Blueberry Banana Smoothie
This refreshing Blueberry Banana Smoothie blends the sweet-tart flavors of fresh blueberries with the creamy richness of ripe bananas, creating a delightful and nutritious beverage packed with antioxidants and potassium.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk (non-fat or unsweetened milk alternative)
- 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 medium banana (ripe or frozen)
- 1 cup fresh spinach
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- Clean the kitchen area and wash hands with soap and water.
- Place fresh blueberries in a colander and rinse under cold running water. Gently scrub banana (with the peel on) and rinse spinach under cold running water. Packaged produce labeled pre-washed shouldn't be washed again.
- Peel the banana and break into pieces.
- Combine all ingredients in a blender.
- Purée on high speed and blend until smooth.
- Serve or store in the fridge for later.
Storage
- Refrigerate any leftovers as soon as possible or within 2 hours for safety.
- Leftovers can also be frozen in freezer-grade containers or bags and used within 3 to 4 months for best quality.
Notes
- Using a frozen banana will make the smoothie more creamy but a regular banana can be used too. A ripe banana is recommended because it helps sweeten the smoothie.
- Some packaged foods contain manufacturer’s instructions for cooking. These instructions must be followed before using the product, especially before adding them to ready-to-eat (RTE) food. Frozen vegetables are an example. They frequently contain cooking instructions from the manufacturer and are often intended for use only after cooking. It is especially important to follow these instructions when using the frozen vegetables to make RTE foods, such as salads. If the vegetables contain a pathogen and the food is not cooked, the pathogen could multiply and cause foodborne illness.
