Baked Apple Crisp

Enjoy the tastes of autumn with this classic Baked Apple Crisp featuring apples in a sweet and crunchy oat topping, baked to perfection until golden and bubbly. Top with your favorite yogurt!

Ingredients
  

  • nonstick cooking spray

Apple Mixture

  • 6 medium apples
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 ½ tablespoons lemon juice

Oat Mixture

  • 1 ½ cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup uncooked old fashioned oats
  • ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
  • cup all-purpose flour
  • cup evaporated skim milk
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Topping

  • 1 cup nonfat vanilla yogurt (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350℉.
  • Clean the kitchen area and wash hands with soap and water.
  • Gently rinse fresh apples under cold running water.
  • Cut apples into ½-inch slices, leaving the skin on. Set aside in a large bowl.
  • In the large bowl, toss apples with white sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • Spray a two-quart casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Place the tossed apples into the casserole dish.
  • Spread the applesauce over the apples.
  • In a large bowl, combine rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, evaporated milk, and cinnamon.
  • Layer the oat mixture on top of the apples in casserole dish.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until lightly brown and bubbly.
  • Cool slightly, but serve while warm.
  • Top with vanilla yogurt (optional).

Storage

  • For safety, refrigerate any leftovers in an airtight container as soon as possible, or within 2 hours, and use within 4 days.
  • Leftovers can also be frozen in freezer-grade containers or bags and used within 3 to 4 months for best quality.
