The Junior Maine Woodcraft program allows campers to learn the skills of the traditional Maine Guide, and modern backcountry travel and camping.
Campers will enjoy the true Maine wilderness and learn traditional outdoor skills in this exciting hands-on experience. Our Junior Maine Woodcraft campers begin by setting up a remote campsite on Long Lake, where many of their skills blocks will take place. The week will be spent learning and practicing traditional backcountry skills, wilderness cooking, canoe travel, tree ID, hiking, axemanship, and more! There will also be plenty of time spent cooling off in and on the waters of beautiful Long Lake!
The Junior Maine Woodcraft program is the first step towards becoming a Junior Maine Guide. Some campers will choose to follow the woodcraft path towards this achievement, while others simply enjoy the excitement and challenges of this wonderful program and may return to try something new. On Friday, each Junior Maine Woodsman or Woodswoman will receive their JMW patch, recognizing their achievement within this exciting program.
