Dining with Diabetes Down East
University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s free, four-week Dining with Diabetes Down East series will be offered in Machias and Calais this summer. The Machias session begins Thursday, July 14, 1–3 p.m., at Machias Memorial High School, 1 Bulldog Lane, Machias. Remaining dates are July 21, July 28 and Aug. 4.
The Calais session begins Wednesday, Sept. 7, 10 a.m.–noon, at Palmer Lane Estates, 27 Palmer Lane, Calais. The series continues Sept. 14, Sept. 21 and Sept. 28.
The program complements medical care by teaching people with Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, along with their family members and caregivers, what they can do to help control blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol. UMaine Extension registered dietitian and nutritionist Alan Majka will provide presentations, lead discussions, and demonstrate preparation of nutritious recipes that participants can sample.
Register online. For more information or to request a disability accommodation, contact Tara Wood, email@example.com, 207.255.3345; 800.287.1542 (Maine only). Classes are limited to 20 participants.
