Washington County Extension Association honors volunteers

Washington County Extension Association (WCEA) honored several volunteers during its annual meeting Sept.19 at the Maine Seacoast Mission in Cherryfield.

Christina Vizcarrondo of Eastport was honored with the Norman W. Duzen Community Service Award for her volunteer efforts in the Eastport area.

Honored with University of Maine Volunteer Pen Awards were Tammy Carle of Princeton and Tora Johnson of Machias for their work with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension 4-H program; and Andrew Dewey of Jonesboro for his efforts with UMaine Extension Master Gardener Volunteers program, including teaching beekeeping classes in the community.

Extension Master Gardener and Eat Well volunteers shared the work they are doing, from growing and gleaning fresh produce for those in need to helping food pantry clients learn how to easily incorporate fresh produce into meals. For more information contact the Washington County Extension office, 28 Center St., Machias, 207.255.3345, extension.washington@maine.edu.
