UMaine Extension offers webinar on ticks in Maine June 25
Ticks in Maine will be the focus of a free University of Maine Cooperative Extension webinar on Thursday, June 25 from 1–2:30 p.m., led by Griffin Dill and Dr. Beatrice Szantyr. Dill is the manager of the Tick Lab at Cooperative Extension Diagnostic and Research Laboratory. Dill coordinates the Integrated Tick Management Program, including the tick identification and tick-borne disease testing services. The program conducts surveillance of ticks and tick-borne pathogens to track their distribution, detect trends or changes in tick activity, and identify areas of risk for tick-borne disease in Maine. More information about the Tick Lab is online. Dr. Szantyr, who specializes in internal medicine, and pediatrics and adolescent medicine, serves as medical advisor for MaineLyme. The Maine-based nonprofit is dedicated to decreasing the occurrence of Lyme and related tick-borne diseases in Maine through awareness, prevention, education and advocacy. Online registration is required. Once registered, participants will be sent a Zoom link and phone number to connect with the program. The webinar is accessible by computer or phone.
