Demystifying Barbeque – Learning the Secrets to Smoking Success!

April 19, 2022 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Join Dr. Colt W. Knight, Assistant Extension Professor and State Livestock Specialist for the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, and Southpaw Meat Market to learn the secrets of great BBQ. Participants will learn about meat selection, how to apply seasonings, and smoke meat on a variety of different smokers. Don’t have a smoker? No problem, Dr. Knight will show you how to use common charcoal or propane grills to get the authentic pit fire flavor. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to practice preparing dry rubs from scratch, learn proper trimming to ensure even cooking, and how to plate and serve your barbeque like a pro. Don’t worry, everyone will have the opportunity to sample some mouth-watering ribs and chicken straight off the pit.

If you are a person with a disability and need an accommodation to participate in this program, please call Melissa Babcock at 207.581.2788 or 1.800.287.7170 (in Maine) to discuss your needs. Receiving requests from accommodations at least 10 days before the program provides a reasonable amount of time to meet the request, however, all requests will be considered.
