Washington County Extension Association Honors Volunteers

Washington County Extension Association honored several volunteers during its annual meeting May 17 at Jonesboro Elementary School.

Nathan Pennell of Whitneyville was honored with the Norman W. Duzen Community Service Award for his almost 40 years of volunteering with Jacksonville Grange #358 and Whitneyville Library.

Also honored were Joanne McMahon of Cooper for her efforts on the Senior Companion Advisory Committee, and Jennifer Prout of Jonesboro for volunteering with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension 4-H and Master Gardener Volunteers programs.

Washington County STEM program guides gave the evening presentation, “Science is Everywhere,” about a collaborative project with Axiom Education and Training Center, Machias; UMaine Extension 4-H; and Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance, which connects young people in the Machias area with resources in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
