4-H Focuses on Photo Contest in Washington County

Washington County, Maine- If a photo is worth a thousand words, then 4-H members spoke volumes this year during the annual Washington County 4-H Photo Contest sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.   

The Washington County 4-H Photo Contest encourages 4-H members to use photography as a meaningful communication tool and develop life skills in expressive arts.   4-H members, ages 5 to 19, were allowed to submit up to six entries in their age division.  The categories included nature/landscape, people, animals, architecture, 4-H activity and storyboard. Judges scored submissions on focus, lighting, print quality, subject, composition, impact and uniqueness.  

The top blue ribbons awarded this year were:
Senior Division (ages 14-19) 
Nature/landscape, people, animals, and architecture: Hannah LaRose, Independent member

Junior Division (ages 9-13)
Nature/landscape: Linda Jessiman, Cobscook Currents 4-H Club
People:  Soren Danielson, Cobscook Currents
Animals and 4-H activity: Lily April, Independent member
Architecture and storyboard: Jenilyn LaRose, Independent member

Cloverbud 4-H members, ages 5-8, received participation ribbons.

Each of the judges selected a Judge’s Choice.  Those selected were:
Tabitha LaRose, Independent, for her piece titled Little Sister Planting Veteran’s Flags.
Soren Danielson, Cobscook Currents, for two of his photos, Inside Outside and One of My Many Cousins.

Soren Danielson, Cobscook Currents, received a Judge's Choice Award for Inside Outside. Soren also won a second blue ribbon with this photo. He also won a Judge's Choice for his photo called "One of My Many Cousins".
Tabitha LaRose, Independent, received a Judge's Choice Award for Little Sister Planting Veteran's Flags.
Lily April, Independent, received top blue ribbon in the 4-H Activity category for the Jonesboro Grange-4-H Blue Hill Fair photo. Soren Danielson won the second blue in this category with My Beebot.
Jenilyn LaRose, Independent, received top blue ribbon in the Architecture category for Pink + Purple House. Soren Danielson won second blue in this category with Inside Outside.
Lily April, Independent, received top blue ribbon in the Animal category with Dachshund Pups. Nellie Boston won second blue in this category with In the Sun.
Linda Jessiman, Cobscook Currents, received top blue ribbon in the Nature category with King of the Rock. Jenilyn LaRose won second blue in this category with Lady Slippers.
Jenilyn LaRose, Independent, received top blue Ribbon in Junior Storyboard with Greenland Point 4-H Camp.
Hannah LaRose, Independent, received top blue ribbon in the Senior Nature category with Bubble Tree. Hannah also won top blue in Animal, Architecture, and People categories.
Cloverbud Ruth Bell of Cobscook Currents 4-H Club submitted this photo she entitled Peek-A-Boo!
Cloverbud Ira Danielson of Cobscook Currents submitted Oma's Babies.
Cloverbud Zoey Theriault, Cobscook Currents, submitted Fly Masks.

All photos are on display downstairs at the Porter Memorial Library in Machias through the month of October.
