Participation in the 4-H Shooting Sports has steadily grown in recent years and with this growth comes a greater demand for volunteer instructors. The 4-H model is a comprehensive youth development program that utilizes shooting sports as a way of connecting with young people and teaching life skills such as teamwork, respect, and discipline as well as safety and enjoyment. Currently, there are certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors in every county in the state and that list is growing.

The University of Maine 4-H Shooting Sports Program Will host a workshop to certify volunteer instructors in archery and rifle disciplines.  Participants will be certified to teach one specific discipline to youth participating in a formal 4-H Shooting sports program or school setting.

Certification is a two-step process:

Participants must arrange for and complete 4-H volunteer onboarding before they can become fully certified instructor for Maine 4-H Shooting sports and enjoy the benefits of liability insurance, loaner gear and equipment, and access to mini-grants and support (as available).  Jen Lobley will assist you with this process either before or after the shooting sports training to walk you through this process.  Once your onboarding is complete Jen will work with you to connect you with your local extension county office.
