Dear Friends,
Congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program! I am pleased to join you in celebrating this significant milestone.
Since 1969, the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) has been providing hands-on education to parents, caregivers, and youth in the essentials of nutrition, food safety and security, food resource management, and physical activity. This essential program helps limited-resource families and youth gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior changes necessary for economic and nutritious diets that contribute to personal development. Through community partnerships across the state, EFNEP further ensures the success and improved quality of life for families and children.
On behalf of the people of Maine, I thank the EFNEP graduates, volunteers, and UMaine Extension professionals who have worked tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for families and youth statewide. I commend you on achieving 50 years of this successful program, and I encourage your continued efforts on behalf of limited-resource families in Maine for years to come.
Thank you,
Janet T. Mills
Governor
