Lead Facilities Maintenance Worker

AmeriCorps Volunteer: January to Late June

NorthStar 4-H Youth Mentor

As a mentor, you’ll foster healthy relationships with mentees, providing them the support they need to thrive. Members will directly support youth academic and social-emotional success and provide in-school, after-school, and weekend experiences around adventure and leadership, community engagement, and student sparks. These relationships are key to their ability to thrive beyond school, fostering their whole-life development. Students are rural and suburban youth who encompass many different demographics. Students are upper-elementary/middle school-aged. Our AmeriCorps members support the NorthStar 4-H Mentoring program based in Belfast, Maine.

  • Full time, temporary position, January 23-June 30, 2026.  40 hours per week. This role requires a 900-hour commitment.
  • Position includes benefits through AmeriCorps and and Education award upon completion.
    • Education Award: $3,697.50

Three-Season Positions: April to Late October

Outdoor Educator

Outdoor Educators lead and support environmental and outdoor learning programs for youth attending our sites with their classroom/school. The role combines teaching, adventure, and leadership to help students explore nature, develop confidence, and strengthen teamwork skills in a supportive outdoor setting. Specific summer role determinations will be made as part of the hiring process and through discussions based on your skills, interests, and abilities.

  • Full-time position, April 13-October 23, 2026, we can consider spring or fall only, however we prefer a 3-season commitment 
  • Stipend is $15,000-$15,750 for about 30 weeks, including paid training, paid in bi-weekly installments.

Staff Coordinator/Lead Educator

As the Staff Coordinator/Lead Educator at Tanglewood, your role is pivotal in ensuring the success of diverse programs through mentoring and modeling of best practices and ways of being. Collaborating closely with the Director and program leadership team, you’ll assist in teaching, planning, executing, and evaluating programs. You will serve as a mentor for staff, providing support in program delivery, supervision, and feedback. The Staff Coordinator/Lead Educator supports the intangible magic of Tanglewood, blending education, engagement, and fun creatively across all program seasons. You have a deep appreciation for immersive educational experiences and are committed to creating life-changing experiences for participants and staff.  You will reside on-site throughout the seasons, with structured time off each week. You will serve as the Director on Duty during times when the Director is off grounds, sharing overnight responsibilities with the leadership team.

Lead Cook

Multiple lead cooks work as a team and with the director in ordering food, creating schedules, and ensuring the kitchen is kept at Maine State health code standards. You will be responsible for preparing 1-2 meals per day for the camp community. April-May and September-October are flexible schedules where not all weeks will have meal service. June-August follows a fixed schedule; an individual may opt to work up to two shifts (or meals): 5:00-9:30 a.m. (breakfast), 9:00-2:00 p.m. (lunch), and 3:00-8:00 p.m. (dinner). Some weekend work is required. The position pays overtime when accrued outside of the typical fixed schedule; however, we strive to keep to the fixed schedule during the summer months.

  • Salary is $22.08-$23.31/hour based on experience, paid in bi-weekly installments.

Summer Positions, June-August

Overnight Summer Camp Counselor (Level 1 and 2)

Overnight Camp Counselors are responsible for fostering a supportive, inclusive, and respectful living environment for campers, prioritizing their safety, enjoyment, and personal growth. This role requires counselors to model positive community living and guide campers in learning to live responsibly and sustainably. Through active engagement and leadership, Overnight Camp Counselors help campers develop a sense of connection to both the community and the natural world around them. We have three levels of Overnight Camp Counselors with different requirements and responsibilities for each level. 

  • Full-Time, Temporary, June 10 or June 14 to August 14, 2026
  • Stipend range is $3,600-$4,750 for 9-10 weeks, including paid training, paid in bi-weekly installments.

Trip Leader and Leadership Educator (Level 3 Overnight Camp Counselor)

As a Trips and Leadership Educator, you will play an integral role in leading outdoor leadership programs for teenagers, guiding them through 3-8 day trips including camping, hiking, and canoeing adventures. You will participate in a comprehensive training to hone your practical skills, after which you’ll co-lead multiple-week sessions focused on essential leadership skills such as communication, team-building, and outdoor safety. Your responsibilities will include planning and implementing engaging lessons for in-camp and out-of-camp time, supervising campers for their safety and well-being, planning and preparing meals for trips, and driving 12-passenger vans to various program sites, all while modeling positive behavior and environmental stewardship.

  • Stipend range of $4,750-$5,000 for about 9.5 weeks, including paid training, paid in bi-weekly installments.

Day Summer Camp Counselor (Levels 1-3)

Day Camp Counselors play a vital role in creating an engaging camp experience by actively interacting with campers throughout daily activities, lessons, meals, and playtime. Day Camp Staff recreate with campers and, alongside a co-counselor, facilitate both structured and unstructured activities during the daytime. We have three levels of Day Camp Counselors, each with different requirements. The director determines your level.

Day Camp Counselors have the option to reside on-site throughout the season, with structured time off each week. Day camp counselors who live on-site are required to assist with dishwashing and assisting with closing the camp kitchen 2-3 evenings per week (roughly 3-6 hours total).

  • Stipend range $3,500-$4,750 for 10 weeks, commensurate with experience, including 1 week of paid training, paid in bi-weekly installments.

Program Coordinator-Health Care Provider

This position’s essential duties are to work closely with the Director and camp administration to ensure a successful summer program for both counselors and campers. Each week will vary in duties and intensity depending on which programs are in camp, medical needs of the campers and staff, and where support is needed.  As a staff support team member, you will play a crucial role in mentoring best practices for maintaining participant safety and wellness, and staff wellness. You are the first responder in the event of a healthcare emergency, regardless of time or place, with a team of trained staff to support you when necessary. Time management and the ability to work independently at times are necessary. You will reside on-site throughout the season, with structured time off each week.

Program Internships

The Tanglewood Internship is primarily a youth programming and teaching development role. Unlike traditional counselor roles focused mainly on camper supervision, this internship emphasizes mentorship and training in lesson leadership, particularly in outdoor skills and Maine ecology. This position is ideal for individuals who have experience working with and supervising youth, but are ready to expand into designing and leading lessons and activities.

  • Full-Time, Temporary, April 13- June 6, June 14-August 15, or August 31-October 30, 2026
  • Stipend range $3,000$3,375  for 8-9 weeks, commensurate with experience, including paid training, paid in bi-weekly installments

Facilities and Maintenance

Your position will be based at Tanglewood in Lincolnville, Maine. Your day-to-day work will involve active indoor and outdoor tasks with opportunities to learn and develop practical skills related to facility upkeep and maintenance. Tasks include grounds keeping, janitorial, minor maintenance, and other duties as assigned.

  • Part-time, 30 hours per week, June 7-August 28, 2026, 14 weeks, includes on-the-job training
  • Stipend range $16.51- $17.07 per hour, paid in bi-weekly installments

Assistant Cook

Your position will be based at the Learning Center in Lincolnville, Maine. Kitchen assistants work closely with the Lead Cooks to ensure the dietary needs of everyone at camp are met, supporting with food prep and dishwashing tasks. June-August follows a fixed schedule; an individual may opt to work up to two shifts (or meals): 5:00-9:30 a.m. (breakfast), 9:00-2:00 p.m. (lunch), and 3:00-8:00 p.m. (dinner). Some weekend work is required. Position pays overtime when accrued outside of the typical fixed schedule.

  • Part-Time, various shift options, seasonal (June-August)
  • Salary is $20.28-$21.37 per hour, 25-35 hours per week when meal service is required, paid in bi-weekly installments.
