5.09.18 Another Mummy Berry Infection Period, May 9 to May 10
With the warm days and colder nights, we are getting fog in a lot of blueberry areas and having more overnight infection periods than we have seen in the recent past. I expect the next few nights will also have fog overnight.
Midcoast Region and Downeast
Wednesday, May 9 to Thursday, May 10: There was another Monilinia infection period in most fields last night. Please see table below. Plants are still going to be susceptible and cups are starting to wind down but may still be present.
Please let me know if you still have cups. You can email me, Seanna Annis, at sannis@maine.edu or call me at the blueberry hotline 1.800.897.0757.

If you applied fungicide after Wednesday, May 2 (seven days), your plants were protected during this infection period.
If you have not applied a fungicide and want to apply a fungicide with some kickback activity, you have approximately 72 hours from the start of the infection period to do so. With this warm weather, you may want to do this as soon as you can since the fungus is also going to grow faster in the warm weather. For this potential infection period on Wednesday night, you would have until approximately Saturday, May 12.
Fungicides with some kickback activity include Propimax, Bumper, Orbit, Tilt for example (containing propiconazole) or Indar (containing fenbuconazole). Please see the 2018 fungicide recommendations on the Fact Sheet 219 – Disease Control Guide for Wild Blueberries and check with your buyer before applying any fungicides to your crop.
