Monilinia infection May 10, and mummy berry cups still active May 12

May 10th to 11th had conditions for another Monilinia infection period which started about 5 to 6pm in Waldoboro, Hope, West Rockport and Ellsworth, and later in the evening in Aurora, Blue hill and Jonesboro fields. Some fields in the barrens had wet conditions that continued through May 10th from the start of the rain the day before, May 9th.

If you applied fungicide later then April 30th to May 2nd (10 to 7 days before, respectively), your plants likely were protected during this latest infection period. If you have flower buds starting to open or have bees in your fields, it is too late to apply fungicide since you could affect your pollination. If you do want to apply fungicide, you have until about the evening of May 13th to apply propiconazole or other related fungicides to hopefully control some of the disease. Please check the label for intervals before harvest and with your processor about what materials you can use at this point.

Active mummy berry cups are still present in fields in Waldoboro, Hope, and West Rockport and in the barrens. I suspect they are still active in most fields. This cool weather is going to keep the cups going for longer as it also slows plant development. The rain forecast for Wednesday is probably going to cause an Monilinia infection period in some later developing fields. Please check your mummy berry plots.
