Bushcraft (2 weeks) (ages 14-17)

Camper blowing on camp fire

Nestled deep in the forests of Mt. Christopher sits one of our most remote campsites, where Bushcraft campers live and learn far from the bustle of everyday life. Guided by two experienced Maine Guide Specialists, campers wake to the sounds of nature and begin an immersive journey into wilderness survival, craft making, and Leave No Trace ethics.

The first week is spent at base camp building essential survival skills. Campers learn wilderness cooking over an open fire as they help prepare their own meals, master fire-building without matches, and construct natural shelters using materials from the forest. These foundational skills set the stage for confidence and independence in the outdoors.

During the second week, campers depart on a backcountry expedition, putting their skills to the test in a truly wild setting. As they explore the surrounding wilderness, squirrels, deer, owls, and foxes become their neighbors. Campers deepen their skills through advanced animal tracking, foraging, tool craft, and backcountry travel, gaining a powerful connection to their natural surroundings.

Throughout the program, campers build resilience, leadership, and self-confidence while developing a wide array of practical survival skills. Bushcraft represents the pinnacle of our Wilderness Survival Path and serves as a gateway to becoming a Junior Maine Guide.
