4-H Shooting Sports — Archery Camp (ages 13-15)

Whether you’re new to archery or ready to refine the skills you already have, 4-H Shooting Sports — Archery Camp is a week dedicated to learning the art and sport of the bow.

With guidance from knowledgeable instructors, campers develop proper shooting techniques, learn about archery equipment, and spend plenty of time on the range building confidence and accuracy through hands-on practice.

Find Your Focus

Archery is a sport of patience, consistency, and precision. Throughout the week, campers work on the fundamentals while having opportunities to challenge themselves and try different equipment and shooting experiences.

Hands-on learning includes:

  • Proper shooting form and technique
  • Range and equipment safety
  • Different types of bows and archery equipment
  • Equipment use, care, and tuning
  • Accuracy and target shooting techniques
  • Traditional and 3D targets
  • Crossbow shooting
  • Skill-building challenges and practice

As campers develop their skills, they’ll have plenty of opportunities to put what they’ve learned into practice, with the week culminating in friendly competition on the range.

And because this is summer camp, the experience goes beyond archery. Campers also enjoy traditional Bryant Pond activities that may include swimming, hiking, high and low ropes course challenges, first aid, map and compass, and other outdoor skills.

Important Information About Personal Shooting Sports Equipment

Because The University of Maine defines firearms and archery equipment as weapons and has a strict weapons policy for the safety of all, and for liability and insurance reasons, camp program participants are asked not to bring their personal shooting sports equipment to Bryant Pond 4-H Camp & Learning Center without prior authorization from the Camp Director or the Maine 4-H Shooting Sports Program Coordinator. The 4-H Shooting Sports instruction team at Bryant Pond is very familiar with the wide variety of equipment here, and competently provide complete instruction in the shooting sports discipline programs that we offer.
