Recreational Safety Programs

Build skills. Explore the outdoors. Learn to recreate safely and responsibly.
Recreational safety education has long been an important part of the Bryant Pond experience. Through our partnership with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, campers have the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to safely and responsibly enjoy Maine’s outdoor traditions.
At Bryant Pond, safety education goes beyond the classroom. Campers learn by doing—practicing skills, exploring the outdoors, and applying what they learn in a supportive summer camp environment. Whether their interests include hunting, archery, ATV riding, boating, fishing, or exploring the natural world, campers build confidence, develop responsible decision-making skills, and gain a greater appreciation for Maine’s outdoor resources.
Explore the programs below to find the experience that best fits your camper.
Hunter & Recreational Safety
Hunter Safety Firearms | Ages 10–13
Build the foundation to become a safe and responsible hunter. Campers combine Maine Firearms Hunter Safety education with hands-on instruction in firearm safety, hunter responsibility, survival, first aid, map and compass, and other outdoor skills—all as part of a full week at summer camp.
Hunter Safety Archery | Ages 10–13
Patience, skill, and confidence come together as campers learn the foundations of safe and responsible bowhunting. Hands-on instruction includes archery skills, hunter responsibility, treestand safety, shot placement, survival, map and compass, and more.
Conservation Camp — Hunter Safety Firearms & ATV Safety | Ages 10–15
Double the skills in one week at camp. This program combines Firearms Hunter Safety with ATV safety education and hands-on riding instruction, giving campers the opportunity to build skills in two popular areas of Maine outdoor recreation.
Conservation & Boating
Natural Explorer | Ages 10–13
Perfect for curious campers who want to try a little bit of everything. Explore wildlife, habitats, streams, and aquatic ecosystems while enjoying activities such as nature arts, archery, swimming, and canoeing. Campers also have the opportunity to earn their Maine Boater Safety Certificate.
Fishing Camp | Ages 10–13
Cast a line on Lake Christopher while learning fishing techniques, fish and habitat identification, aquatic ecology, canoeing, and boating safety.
